Although the population of Jura is small, the quantity and quality of the musical talent on the island is outstanding.  Ranging from professional musicians to musicians currently attending the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, to local "amateur" musicians, Jura is blessed with an extraordinary amount of talent.

Jura's most well known and established "traditional music" group is the Jura Ceilidh Band. They have played traditional dance music through out the world as well as recording two CD’s. The lead accordionist, David MacDonald is related to the Darroch’s and MacArthur’s who have traditionally provided music, song and poetry on Jura.

On the "acoustic" music scene, Jura's best known artist would be Danny Moran.  Danny's first CD, titled "Ragina Maris" has been well received and features a unique Hebridean Sound blended with modern arrangements.

Local talent includes the Rozga brothers (Craig, Graham, Ross) and Grant, who are a virtual band of their own, as well as Danny Moran's brother Simon, who is beginning to establish a reputation on his own.

On any given night local musicians may be playing in the Jura Hotel in an informal session, so give a call to see what's on at: 01496820295.

The annual Jura Music Festival has been nominated for the Best British Folk Festival and should not be missed if one is in the area.  Contact us at: director@theisleofjura.co.uk for more information on this year's festival.
